CITY RECEIVES GRANT FUNDING TO IMPROVE ACCESS FOR AN IMPORTANT COMMUNITY AMENITY
Efforts to repair the Atascadero Lake Park Pier and improve access to the area will begin on Tuesday, September 12th. Atascadero Lake Park is a popular destination for residents and visitors who enjoy many of the park’s amenities and the Charles Paddock Zoo. To help support the cost of the project, the City was awarded approximately $178,000 in grant funding as part of Proposition 68 (California Drought, Water, Parks, Climate, Coastal Protection, and Outdoor Access for All Act). Grant funding will assist with the replacement of the pier railing, deck boards, concrete sidewalk and curb, a new stairway with handrails and an ADA compliant ramp from the asphalt pathway behind the upper restrooms to the new sidewalk near the boathouse entrance. Additional improvements including replacing the chain link fencing with matching pier railing between the pier and old wading pool. The project is part of additional efforts to improve park facilities as part of the City Council’s key priorities identified in the City’s 2023-25 Budget.
Construction will occur Monday through Friday and is expected to be completed by the middle of October. Access to Mr. Putters Boathouse will be maintained during construction and on the weekends.
